About the Author

William Lawhead

William F. Lawhead is Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at theUniversity of Mississippi.He holds a B.A. in philosophy from WheatonCollege (Ill.) and a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Texas,Austin.He has been teaching philosophy since 1970 and joined theUniversity of Mississippi faculty in 1980, where he taught for 37years.Besides teaching philosophy at the University of Mississippi, heserved as the chair of the Department of Philosophy and Religion for a numberof years and was a member of the faculty of the Honors College.Hereceived three awards for excellence in teaching and numerous grants forresearch in the humanities. He has published several textbooks as well as articlesand book chapters on topics in the history of philosophy and philosophy ofreligion.In addition to conference presentations in philosophy, hehas conducted workshops on critical thinking and hypothesis testing forrepresentatives from various international intelligence agencies.
