Program Details

Corrective Reading® Decoding is a comprehensive reading intervention for students in Grades 3 and above. With more than fifty years of successful use in classrooms, the program provides thoughtfully structured lessons that help students strengthen decoding, build fluency, expand vocabulary, and grow in confidence as readers. The instructional routines are clear, consistent, and supportive, giving students the guided practice and feedback they need to master essential skills and apply them to real reading.
Students learn to read words accurately, approach unfamiliar text with effective strategies, and increase their reading rate and expression. Vocabulary and comprehension are developed throughout the program using engaging narrative and informational passages selected specifically for older learners. In addition, digital resources on the teacher display boards introduce and reinforce vocabulary using photographs, short video clips, and visual organizers. These visuals provide meaningful context and support understanding, helping students stay engaged and deepen comprehension as their reading abilities strengthen.
The program includes four levels of instruction, allowing teachers to place students exactly where they need to begin. Some students may focus on rebuilding core decoding skills, while others work on fluency and automaticity. Straightforward placement tools and well-sequenced lessons make the process simple to implement and easy to sustain across classrooms and instructional teams.
Instruction follows a mastery-focused routine in which the teacher models a skill, students practice it together and then apply the skill independently. Frequent check-ins help teachers monitor progress and respond to individual needs. This structure reinforces accurate reading habits, reduces guessing, and promotes steady, visible growth.
