About the Author

William Lawhead

William F. Lawhead is Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at the University of Mississippi. He holds a B.A. in philosophy from WheatonCollege (Ill.) and a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Texas, Austin. Hehas been teaching philosophy since 1970 and joined the University ofMississippi faculty in 1980, where he taught for 37 years. Besides teachingphilosophy at the University of Mississippi, he served as the chair of theDepartment of Philosophy and Religion for a number of years and was a member ofthe faculty of the Honors College. He received three awards for excellence inteaching and numerous grants for research in the humanities. He has publishedseveral textbooks as well as articles and book chapters on topics in thehistory of philosophy and philosophy of religion. In addition to conferencepresentations in philosophy, he has conducted workshops on critical thinkingand hypothesis testing for representatives from various internationalintelligence agencies.
