Tailored for a diverse audience— including undergraduates, MAcc, and MBA students—the content highlights the vital role of accounting in addressing sustainability challenges. Through modular chapters encompassing the most widely recognized frameworks and standards, learners will build critical-thinking and problem-solving skills to assess sustainability practices and make responsible decisions that align with those principles.

About the Author

Barbara Porco

Barbara M. Porco has been a member of Fordham University Gabelli School of Business’s accounting faculty for over twenty years and currently serves as the associate dean of graduate studies and the managing director of the Responsible Business Center (RBC). She has received several awards, including the American Accounting Association Ethics in Accounting Excellence Award, the National Teaching Innovation Award from the American Accounting Association, and Poets & Quants 50 Best Undergraduate Business Professors. In addition to her doctoral degree, Barbara has a master’s degree in sustainability and environmental management and a corporate sustainability and innovation certification from Harvard University, and the Wharton ESG Executive Certificate for Senior Leaders. 

She proudly serves on the AICPA’s Assurance Services Executive Committee and the Sustainability Assurance and Advisory Task Force and the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard Technical Working Group. Before her academic positions, Barbara was a tax director and audit supervisor in the financial service group at PricewaterhouseCoopers. She is the author of KPMG Ethical Compass: Integrity in Business, a multi-series package of interactive instructional material that enables college professors to present ethics-related topics in their classrooms, including issues with sustainability dimensions. The Ethical Compass has won multiple awards and has been used at more than 150 universities nationwide.

Timothy P. Hedley

Timothy Hedley, Ph.D., CPA, CFF, CFE, is an executive-in-residence at the Gabelli School of Business, Fordham University. He is responsible for the school’s ESG Literacy programs. Tim teaches courses in sustainability reporting, business risks in a digital global economy, forensic accounting, managerial accounting, accounting fundamentals, and business ethics. Tim is a past Chair of the Connecticut Society of CPAs and the founding chairman of its ESG Committee. Tim is also a board member of the Center for Professional Accounting Practices.Tim has over 25 years of experience providing clients with a wide range of forensic services by assisting with preventing, detecting, and responding to governance and integrity risks. Until his retirement, he was a partner in the forensic practice at a “Big 4” accounting firm, where he served as global lead for the firm’s fraud risk management service offerings. In addition to authoring numerous articles, he is co-author of the books The New Era of Regulatory Enforcement: A Comprehensive Guide for Raising the Bar to Manage Risk and Managing the Risk of Fraud and Misconduct: Meeting the Challenges of a Global, Regulated and Digital Environment, both published by McGraw Hill.

Steven M. Mintz

Steven M. Mintz is a professor emeritus in accounting from the California Polytechnic State University–San Luis Obsipo. He holds a doctoral degree from George Washington University. He has published dozens of papers in the ethics space and is the co-author of a textbook on accounting ethics, Ethical Obligations and Decision Making in Accounting: Text & Cases.Professor Mintz has won several awards for his work including the 2015 Accounting Exemplar Award given out by the Public Interest, Ethics and Sustainability (PIES) section of the American Accounting Association. Steve’s case studies have won the Best Innovation in Teaching Award given out by the PIES in 2022 and 2023. He was selected for the Max Block Distinguished Article Award given out by The CPA Journal in December 2014 and March 2018. He received the Faculty Excellence Award from the California Society of CPAs. Steve also received the Distinguished Service Award from PIES in 2024.
