This case study highlights Union Public Schools in southeast Tulsa, Oklahoma, a diverse public district serving nearly 15,960 students across 14 elementary schools (PreK–5). The district includes a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds, with Free and Reduced Lunch eligibility varying from less than 40% to nearly 100% depending on the school. Union Public Schools adopted McGraw Hill’s Everyday Mathematics program to strengthen math instruction and support its goal of ensuring all students graduate college and career ready. Everyday Mathematics, developed by the University of Chicago School Mathematics Project, provides a spiral curriculum that revisits math concepts over time and integrates real-world applications. The program was first implemented in grades K–3 and later expanded to grades 4 and 5. Teachers report that the program’s multiple algorithms and flexible materials help reach diverse learners, including a growing population of English language learners. The digital Student Learning Center component offers interactive games, immediate feedback, and parent support. Educators describe improved student problem-solving skills and number sense since adopting the program. The district appreciates the consistent support and training provided by McGraw Hill Education, noting that trainers are experienced users of the program. Everyday Mathematics has been readopted every seven years, reflecting continued satisfaction with its alignment to district goals. The district also values the program’s ability to maintain continuity in learning for students who move between schools within its 28-square-mile boundary.
