Frequently Asked Questions

SRA Reading stands for Science Research Associates. It was an educational publishing company founded in 1938 that focused on creating research-based instructional materials for schools.  One of its most famous products is the SRA Reading Labratory, a self-paced reading program that uses leveled reading cards and comprehension questions to help students improve their reading skills.  Today, SRA is part of McGraw Hill.

SRA Reading Laboratory is a trusted supplemental literacy program that has supported classroom reading instruction for more than 60 years. Now part of McGraw Hill, SRA Reading Laboratory helps students strengthen reading comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, and independent reading skills through personalized instruction, engaging fiction and nonfiction texts, and flexible implementation that can be used independently, in small groups, intervention settings, or teacher-led instruction.

The SRA Reading Laboratory program is widely used in schools as a supplement to core reading curriculum. It supports differentiated instruction by allowing students to progress at their own pace, often under teacher supervision, which helps to address diverse learning needs and reading competencies.

Benefits of the SRA Reading Laboratory include fostering self-paced learning, improving reading skills through systematic practice, enhancing comprehension across different genres, and providing teachers with valuable tools to monitor student progress effectively.
