Science

Let’s celebrate the curious.

From kindergarten teachers pressed for time to AP chemistry educators preparing diverse learners for STEM careers, every teacher needs support to deliver rigorous, engaging science instruction. Our programs combine flexible lesson plans, hands-on learning, augmented reality supplements, and adaptive technology to reach students at all levels and foster curiosity through real-world phenomena. Created by renowned authors and tightly aligned to state standards, our curricula provide differentiation tools and engaging resources that make science accessible, meaningful, and fun—empowering teachers to create an environment that celebrates the curious.

Equipping Teachers to Support Diverse Classrooms

From kindergarten teachers pressed for time to AP chemistry teachers working to prepare a diverse class of learners for a high-stakes exam, every educator needs support to deliver rigorous, standards-aligned, engaging science instruction – and have fun doing it.

Our approach to science curricula prioritizes subject matter content and differentiation supports. Our K–5 programs offer multiple lesson plans to meet the varying time allotments elementary teachers have for science, and our 6–12 programs help teachers determine the most important activities when time is limited. Designed to reach students across reading proficiencies and with varying background knowledge, our programs equip all educators to deliver rigorous science instruction with confidence and ease.

  • K–12 Science programs provide "short on time" recommendations to guide teachers in selecting the most worthwhile activities when time is limited.

Teacher support is right at point of use in lesson planning, professional learning at your fingertips, and a community of like-minded individuals to share ideas and best practices.

  • The Standards Refresh in our Texas and Florida Science programs is a curated set of resources teachers can assign from previous grade levels to help remind or "refresh" students' knowledge of prerequisite information from the previous grade level related to the topic they are about to study.

  • With an iterative approach to lesson design, Actively Learn teachers are empowered to craft a customized science curriculum, choosing from a library of resources including PhET simulations, Tuva datasets, and timely articles. Teachers’ guides support the 5E approach to lessons by providing examples of how each assignment might fit into specific phases of the 5E model.

  • In the Inspire Science Teacher Community, open to all teacher users, educators will find hands-on teaching support, real classroom insights, and meaningful educator connection. From lesson ideas and implementation tips to interactive discussions and exclusive resources, this community brings Inspire Science to life. Teachers will also find fun community contests and exciting giveaways designed to celebrate teachers and spark creativity.

Inspiring Curious Students to Explore & Discover

The world is full of unknowns. Science should invite students to be curious, to ask questions, and to seek explanations about those unknowns. It should equip them with the skills and knowledge they need to better understand and explore the world around them.

That’s why our approach to science curricula is driven by phenomena, inviting students to investigate the world around them through open-ended exploration (and plenty of fun!). Hands-on learning, augmented reality supplements, adaptive technology, and differentiation tools ensure all students have an entry point to rigorous content and complex concepts. Real-world STEM connections, inspiring Career Kids characters, and relevant examples ensure students are poised to carry their curiosity beyond the classroom.

  • Real scientists get their hands dirty. By conducting hands-on investigations, students can apply their scientific knowledge to real-world problems, building meaningful connections to the material that will stick with them well into the future. Featuring both physical and digital labs, Inspire Science provides every student with the tools to learn by doing.

  • The Drawing Tool in Inspire Science allows students to illustrate responses and annotate images for their assignments. Students can also use the drawing tool to analyze and graph data.

  • Inspire Science partners with If/Then, an organization that works to empower STEM innovators to inspire the next generation to tackle global challenges. Our K–12 science courses contain images and videos from the If/Then collection showcasing real women in STEM careers, inspiring young learners with authentic stories and visuals.

  • With McGraw Hill AR, your science students can now experiment with the impossible in the classroom: dissecting the human eye, taking apart a v8 engine, or playing mini golf to understand reflection. The McGraw Hill AR app is free to use on phones or tablets.

Making Differentiated Learning Simple

Engaging with science lessons requires students to draw on mathematics skills, reading and writing abilities, and their own background knowledge. To ensure that all students have access to learn and engage with subject matter content, teachers need powerful differentiation tools that align to science standards without leaving any learner behind.

That’s why our approach to science instruction provides teachers with differentiation tools to reach learners at every Lexile level or with any language ability, in flexible print and digital formats, supplemented with multimodal resources. Drawing on Universal Design for Learning principles and leveraging AI-driven adaptive technology, every student can build knowledge on their personalized path to science growth. Teachers can be confident that high-quality curricula are closely aligned to their state’s standards, created by renowned authors and best-in-class academic designers.

  • Reading Essentials (in grades 2-8 and High School Biology and Physical Science) provides students with a simplified version of the on-level student edition text. Reading Essentials can be distributed to students on paper or online in their individual eBooks.

  • Smart Book and LearnSmart, available in 6–12 Inspire Science and our AP and Electives titles, assess students’ skills and knowledge as they read and point them to specific content, personalizing learning to support them wherever they are on their learning journey.

  • Authors such as Page Keeley, Dinah Zike, Dr. Julie Jackson and respected contributors and consultants from across the United States work with our best-in-class academic designers to construct science programs that delight educators and inspire students to figure out the world around them.
