Corrective Reading
Implementation Study

Grades 3–12

We invite your district to apply!

McGraw Hill is planning to conduct a classroom evaluation study focused on the implementation of Corrective Reading in your district. The study will examine student growth in reading during the 2026–2027 school year. Additionally, we will examine how the program is used and get your feedback about its impact on student engagement and reading ability. We invite grades 3 through 12 classes throughout the district to participate.

Participation Requirements and Time Commitment

To be eligible for this research study, your district must:

  • Commit to implementing the Corrective Reading program with fidelity —approximately 2–3 hours per week
    • Fidelity requirements:
      • Teachers have been trained and (internal or external) support/coaching is ongoing;
      • Placement tests are administered at the beginning of the year;
      • Adequate time allotted for lessons each day (varies by content and grade level);
      • Lesson progress is being made — about 4-5 lessons per week);
      • Assessments must be used and data entered into the platform;
      • Remedy lessons/exercises are implemented as recommended.

  • Provide access to de-identified student-level data from district benchmark assessments (e.g. DIBELS, iReady) for grades 3–12 for 2025–2026 and 2026–2027 for analysis and inclusion in a written report—approximately 2–3 hours total.

  • Provide access to available de-identified student-level data from district/state summative assessments for grades 3–12 for 2025–2026 and 2026–2027 for analysis and inclusion in a written report—approximately 2–3 hours total.

  • Allow periodic, on-site classroom observations to be arranged at the convenience of the schools—2 hours.

  • Complete a survey and/or interview about the teacher’s experience using Corrective Reading—45-60 minutes.

Why Participate?

  • Incentives for participating teachers distributed upon classroom observation and interview completion if district rules allow.
  • More than 3 hours of complimentary professional learning support for Corrective Reading implementation practices, including remote and onsite training and coaching through the 2026–2027 school year.
  • The independent evaluator will provide your district with a report of the study results of the effect of Corrective Reading on ELA assessment scores.
