Description

Craig and colleagues examined the effectiveness of ALEKS for 6th grade students struggling with math in two studies. The studies took place in an after-school setting, with participants randomly assigned either to a teacher-led classroom or to use ALEKS with a teacher present and aiding as needed. The first study found that after one year, students who used ALEKS with high levels of engagement had significantly higher scores on the state math exam than their peers in the teacher-led condition. The second study also found that students in the ALEKS groups needed less help from their teachers while performing math assignments.
