The case study examines the use of ALEKS, an adaptive online math learning program, in Olentangy Middle Schools (grades 6–8) a suburban public school district in Delaware County, Ohio. The study analyzed data from 3,200 middle school math assessments across five district middle schools, focusing on ALEKS performance and its impact on standards-based outcomes, specifically the aimsWebPlus Concept and Application subtest.

Results showed that time spent in ALEKS moderately influenced post-mastery scores, explaining 19.4% of the variance with an effect size of 0.51. Additionally, ALEKS Learning Gain scores explained 6% of the variance in aimsWebPlus winter scores across all middle schools, with an effect size of 0.12, while the High-Use Middle School demonstrated a stronger effect size of 0.24. Teacher feedback highlighted features like weekly topics and mastery-focused progress as motivators for student engagement.
