Making Progress in the School District of Philadelphia

The percentage of Grade 5 students in the School District of Philadelphia scoring at the Advanced or Proficient levels on the PSSA more than doubled — from 18% to over 42% — after the district adopted Everyday Mathematics districtwide, while significantly reducing the number of students performing at the Below Basic level. The School District of Philadelphia, serving approximately 180,000 students, adopted the program as part of a comprehensive reform initiative, combining the curriculum with expanded instructional time, six-week benchmark assessments aligned to Pennsylvania standards, and data-driven instructional planning.
