Description

Students in Math Mentor classrooms demonstrated greater growth on the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) than students in non-mentor classrooms, according to an independent evaluation of Everyday Mathematics in Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191 — and teachers reported increased confidence in instruction along with greater student engagement and success in mathematics. The district, which serves approximately 10,700 students in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area, implemented the program alongside an innovative Math Mentor professional development model, in which experienced mentor teachers supported colleagues during districtwide implementation through intensive training, university partnerships, and ongoing instructional coaching.
