Wonders for English Learners Efficacy Analysis

This analysis examined the SBAC ELA score changes for students in grades 4-6 who used the Wonders for EL program between the 2016-17 and 2017-18 school years. On average, students improved by one achievement level. The study included 23 students in Grade 4, 12 in Grade 5, and 15 in Grade 6. The score gains for Grade 4 (70.6 points, p < .001) and Grade 6 (35.8 points, p = 0.017) were statistically significant. A subgroup analysis was conducted for students whose primary home language was Russian or Spanish. Grade 4 students with Russian as a primary language (n=7) had a significant average score increase of 74.9 points (p < .001). Grade 4 students with Spanish as a primary language (n=9) had a significant average increase of 65.7 points (p < .001). Grade 6 students with Spanish as a primary language (n=8) also showed a significant average increase of 44.4 points (p = 0.001). This analysis indicates a positive association between the use of Wonders for EL and improved ELA outcomes for English learners.
