Description

The study examines Achieve3000 Literacy, a program designed to accelerate reading growth. It includes students across grades 1–12 from public schools in all 50 U.S. states, Washington, D.C., and five U.S. territories. The study analyzed data from 1.4 million students, 5,944 schools, and 1,243 districts during the 2023–24 school year. The methodology employed was correlational, focusing on statistical relationships between program usage and Lexile growth. Outcomes were measured using Lexile scores, which assess reading proficiency, with expected growth calculated using MetaMetrics’ proprietary formula.

Students who engaged with Achieve3000 Literacy at high fidelity (40–79 activities with ≥75% average first-try score) or highest fidelity (80+ activities with ≥75% average first-try score) experienced significantly accelerated Lexile growth. On average, students with highest fidelity usage achieved 3.2 times their expected growth, while those with high fidelity usage achieved 2.6 times their expected growth. Growth was consistent across grade levels, with elementary, middle, and high school students showing accelerated outcomes. For example, middle school students achieved up to 3.5 times their expected growth, while high school students achieved up to 4.4 times their expected growth.

The study also highlighted the importance of accelerated growth for below-grade-level readers to achieve college and career readiness (CCR). Students reading two years below grade level need to attain 1.7 times their expected growth annually to meet CCR targets by graduation. The findings underscore the program’s effectiveness in supporting literacy growth across all CCR levels showing that students in even the lowest CCR level achieved more than 2 times the expected Lexile growth with high fidelity usage.
