Words to Learn By is a three-book series offering an evidence-based approach to vocabulary instruction for adult and young adult learners. Lessons focus on words from the Academic Word List and General Services List to build a foundation of high-frequency vocabulary encountered in academic content areas, the workplace, and everyday life. Each book provides:
- Sequenced, meta-cognitive activities to build vocabulary knowledge and sharpen critical thinking skills
- Comprehensive, words-in-context approach
- Reading and writing practice
- Framework for direct, explicit instruction
The Teacher Editions in addition provide detailed instructions and guidance for teachers.
The books are matched to the following reading levels:
- Building Academic Vocabulary - approximate reading level 4-5
- Expanding Academic Vocabulary - approximate reading level 5-7 (appropriate for Pre-GED students)
- Advanced Academic Vocabulary - approximate reading level 7-9 (appropriate for GED students)
