    Lamont Black

    Academic Director, John L. Keeley Jr. Center for Financial Services; Associate Professor, Department of Finance and Real Estate at DePaul University

    Dr. Lamont Black is Academic Director of the John L. Keeley Jr. Center for Financial Services, and Associate Professor in the Department of Finance and Real Estate in the Driehaus College of Business at DePaul University. Dr. Black is also a Fellow for the Filene Research Institute, leading the center for “The Credit Union of the Future."

    A thought leader in emerging technologies including artificial intelligence, cryptocurrency, blockchain, and the metaverse, Dr. Black is a regularly invited speaker for conference keynotes, strategy sessions, and media outlets to discuss the impact of technology on business strategy. Dr. Black's debut in the 2023 crypto documentary The Highest of Stakes is now available on Prime and AppleTV.

    Dr. Black's award-winning teaching has been featured in the Chicago Tribune and includes courses on business technology, data analytics, data visualization, money and banking, capital markets, blockchain and cryptocurrency. His teaching includes graduate and undergraduate courses and Dr. Black is a two-time recipient of the student-elected Lawrence W. Ryan Distinguished Teaching Award.

    Research by Dr. Black has been published in leading finance journals, including the Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial IntermediationJournal of Money, Credit and Banking, and the Journal of Banking and Finance. He is also a contributing author to the Oxford Handbook of Banking. More information about this research can be found in his CV. Most recently, Dr. Black received a grant from the National Science Foundation as a co-principal investigator to study the ethical creation of AI-supported services for migrants.

    Prior to joining DePaul, Dr. Black was an economist at the Federal Reserve in Washington D.C., where he focused on bank regulation and served at the Board of Governors from 2005 to 2013. He holds dual PhDs in Finance and Economics from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, and he received his BA from Stanford University.
