Description

Join us for an inside look at the instructional design philosophy behind ALEKS Chemistry and learn how our team of former chemistry professors creates learning experiences that promote genuine understanding and long-term retention.

During this webinar, we'll explore:

  • How chemistry content is authored and reviewed by a dedicated team of PhD chemists and experienced educators.
  • Why algorithmically generated problem variations help students move beyond memorization.
  • How ALEKS uses adaptive learning and Knowledge Space Theory to guide students toward mastery.
  • The role of step-by-step topic construction in building lasting conceptual understanding.
  • How customized explanations provide targeted support exactly when students need it.

About Your Speaker

Dr. Brandon Dietrich

Brandon Dietrich received his PhD in chemistry from the University of Washington in 2010, after which he began working as the general chemistry laboratory coordinator for his alma mater, Western Washington University. After several years in this role, Brandon began teaching as an adjunct professor at Western, covering a wide range of upper and lower division topics from general chemistry, analytical chemistry, and inorganic chemistry. He then transitioned to a tenure-track position at Edmonds College where he taught organic chemistry, general chemistry, GOB, and prep chemistry courses. Brandon received tenure the weekend before his college shut down in-person classes due to the COVID-19 virus. Shortly after, he joined the ALEKS team as a chemistry content architect in September of 2020. Brandon is also an avid fisherman and frequent board game player.
