What are some common reflection questions to consider when you reach the end of the term and want to make adjustments to your current course design?

I usually duplicate the course for the next term.

Why do I need to make adjustments to my course?

  •  Duplicating your course for the next term without making assignment/topic changes is totally fine. However, we always recommend reviewing your course throughout the term (especially at the end) to determine if it’s meeting your goals and the needs of your student population. This iterative process can have major benefits for future cohorts.

How do I know what to change/adjust?

  • First, determine which type of assignments you are currently using – adaptive assignments (i.e., Modules) or nonadaptive assignments (i.e., homework, test, quiz), maybe you’re using a blend of both. Now we can utilize ALEKS Reports to dive deeper into the data and do some quick analysis.

Which reports will help me find the data I’m looking for?

Adaptive course design:

  • The ALEKS Pie Report is a great place to start. The ALEKS Pie Report shows students’ current progress on individual topics, which topics students are ready to learn, and which topics students have not yet attempted.
  • The Progress Report is also useful to see how students progressed through your course and the total number of topics they ultimately learned/mastered.
  • To learn more about ALEKS Reports for adaptive assignments, check out this video: ALEKS Adaptive Reports.

Nonadaptive course design:

  • The ALEKS Assignment Report will provide detailed information at both the class and student-level.
  • At the class-level, the Assignment Report will show the average score and performance of the class and will also provide an item analysis for the questions on the assignment.
  • At the student-level, the Assignment Report will provide a detailed history of the student’s submission attempts as well as their submitted answers for all questions.
  • To learn more about the Assignment Report, check out this video: ALEKS Nonadaptive Reports.

Are there any other reports that might be helpful?
