McGraw-Hill Board Member Jonathan Mariner Named One of Savoy Magazine’s 2017 Most Influential Black Corporate Directors

NEW YORK (October 24, 2017) – McGraw-Hill, a learning science company, is proud to announce that board member Jonathan D. Mariner has been recognized as one of Savoy Magazine’s 2017 Most Influential Black Corporate Directors. Savoy Magazine’s Most Influential Black Corporate Directors is the premier listing of African-American executives, influencers and achievers contributing leadership to corporate boards.

“Jonathan’s extensive experience, including his financial and operational expertise, makes him an invaluable member of our board of directors, and we’re extremely proud to see him receive this prestigious and well-deserved recognition,” said Buzz Waterhouse, Interim President & CEO of McGraw-Hill. “As a company, we have a deep appreciation for how diversity strengthens and enhances our team, from our board of directors to our instructional designers and data scientists, and we value it highly across our organization.”

Mariner joined the board of McGraw-Hill in February 2016. He is the founder and president of TaxDay, LLC, a private software firm that helps users track their multi-state travel for tax purposes.

Previously, Mariner had more than two decades of experience working in major league sports, where he served as both CIO and CFO for Major League Baseball (MLB), overseeing approximately $2 billion in combined league-wide pension assets and MLB’s strategic investment fund. He was also president of BASES, the league’s captive insurance company.

Before joining MLB, Mariner served as executive vice president and chief financial officer of the Florida Marlins where he was responsible for directing all of the club's day-to-day financial and administrative operations. Prior to that, he served as executive vice president and chief operating officer of Charter Schools USA, one of the nation's leading charter school development and management companies. Mariner earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Virginia and received a M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

“I am thrilled to be recognized among this list of highly accomplished individuals, each of whom has made significant contributions both at their companies and within their industries,” said Mariner. “In the past year and a half, I have supported McGraw-Hill's vision to unlock the full potential of each learner, and I very much look forward to continuing to help the business succeed in improving learning outcomes in the months and years to come.”
