McGraw Hill Business Program: Excel Proficiency

Harnessing the power of Excel

A variety of Excel tools within McGraw Hill Connect® and SIMnet® provide students with practice with this ever-important business tool. A scaffolded approach allows students to learn in the way that makes sense at that moment in their curriculum based on what professors have told us is appropriate for each course.

McGraw Hill SIMnet® for Microsoft Office

SIMnet covers Excel in addition to the full suite of Microsoft Office products. The goal of SIMnet is to teach students HOW to use these tools, and so provides a solution solid foundation before students learn the business applications of those tools in their other courses. SIMnet uses a simulated environment where students learn the applications in a low-stakes environment, and then they actively work in the actual office products. All activities are auto graded and provide feedback for students as they go. Students can earn badges for their work in SIMnet and have lifelong access to their work in SIMnet, so that they can reference it throughout their college and professional life.

While SIMnet can teach students the basics of Excel, other Excel tools teach students how to use Excel as a tool in the specific course areas they are studying.

Integrated Excel

In this new assignment type, Excel opens seamlessly inside Connect, with no need for uploading or downloading any additional files or software. Instructors choose their preferred auto-graded solution, with the option for either grading for formula accuracy or for the solution value. This tool gives students practice in solving business problems. Even though it uses the actual Excel application, students still get the benefit of cell-by-cell feedback, and all assignments are auto-graded. Disciplines that have Integrated Excel:

  • Accounting
  • Business Analytics
  • Business Statistics
  • Finance
  • Operations Management
