Ask An ALEKS Implementation Manager: Benjamin Crooks on Extending Student Accounts
Often times students will want to extend or renew access to an ALEKS Math or Chemistry account that they’ve been working in.
If my student’s account expires, do they lose their current progress? Does this mean they have to redo assignments that were already completed?
Ben here, Implementation Manager for California, and I’m ready to assist here. The short answer—No, not at all!
Often times students will want to extend or renew access to an ALEKS Math or Chemistry account that they’ve been working in. The most common reasons are that they carried remaining time over from a previous ALEKS course or they used an access code that runs out before the last day of class. Occasionally they may even want to continue using ALEKS after their class ends for additional practice.
Regardless of the reason, this is something they can do by logging in to their existing account and clicking the ‘Extend Access’ options shown below. They can also select ‘Manage my Classes’ from the main menu if they are already logged in to ALEKS. Doing so will ensure that they immediately pick up where they left off and do not have to redo assignments that were already completed (which would be the case if they just create a completely new account).

Of course, using Inclusive Access is a way to prevent these questions from popping up altogether, as access to ALEKS is already included with the course materials fee when a student registers for class at their college or university. Your McGraw Hill rep can discuss Inclusive Access in more detail if you are curious and think it could be a good option.
