Import Students/Rosters - Common Teacher Import and Rostering Scenarios

Review common teacher import and rostering scenarios and recommended setup workflows.

This article applies to districts that use Direct Login and Manual-Rostering. Direct Login means that teachers, students, and administrators log in at my.mheducation.com. Manual Rostering means that teachers manually redeem program content and roster their own classes.

This article walks teachers through when to use the Import Students/Rosters tool. Below are scenarios based on the academic year, but how you use the tool may vary.

New Year or New Semester

Option 1:

It's a new year or semester, and I need to add non-existing student accounts and roster new classes through the import.


Option 2:

It's a new year or semester, and I need to add existing student accounts to new classes through the import.


Option 3:

It's a new year or semester, and I need to add non-existing student accounts. I'll create and roster classes manually.

  1. Follow the steps in the Import New Students and Rosters article.
  2. Refer to the following instructions on how to redeem content, create classes, and add students to your classes based on the platform you use:

During the Year

Throughout the year, I have a few non-existing student accounts to add.

For Open Learning programs, you can add individual students by following the steps on the Manage Class Roster article.

For ConnectED programs, you'll need to use the Import Students/Rosters tool or reach out to your Organization or School Admin to add individual student accounts.

End of the Year

It's the end of the year and I need to remove students from my class and content.

If you're using Open Learning programs, instead of removing students we recommend archiving the class. This will allow you to keep the students attached to the class to be able to access student reports.

If you prefer to remove students from the class, refer to the Manage Class Roster article.
