Single Sign-On (SSO) and Manual Rostering

This article applies to Auto-Rostering and Single Sign-On districts.

Auto-Rostering means that account creation, class setup, and roster management are automated through a process handled by your district.

Single Sign-On means districts use an SSO portal, district website, or Learning Management System (LMS) to access McGraw Hill digital programs.

Direct Login means that teachers, students, and administrators log in at my.mheducation.com. There are sometimes situations when districts using an integrated service need to sign directly in to the site. In those situations, the user will have the ability to reset their password and sign directly in at the McGraw Hill PreK-12 Log-In site.

Manual Rostering means that teachers redeem their own program content and roster their own classes.

Not sure which Access Service your district uses? View the Access Service Descriptions article to learn more about the four Access Services that we support.

ConnectED products with embedded ALEKS provide users with a convenient way to sign in and access ALEKS. If your district sends McGraw Hill class roster data, then your ConnectED account and classes are automatically created and managed for you. These classes also feed into your embedded ALEKS content.

ConnectED products embedded with ALEKS require special provisioning. Once configured, teachers and students can launch ALEKS directly from their ConnectED courses. Classes need to be created within the Teacher Edition of the program in order to activate ALEKS. Your classes should already be created if your district uses our auto-rostering service.

The information in this article helps teachers get started using embedded ALEKS. These frequently asked questions and information explain a few differences between ConnectED courses with embedded ALEKS and other versions of ALEKS.

To access ALEKS, click on Resources from the navigation Menu and then click on ALEKS from the filter list. Click on the ALEKS tile to launch the program.

Q: How do I build classes for embedded ALEKS?

A: For teachers in districts that use auto-rostering, your classes are created automatically based on the roster data your district sends to us. Once your classes are created, they automatically feed into ALEKS. For teachers in districts that use our Single Sign-On (SSO) and Manual Rostering Access Service, they need to manually create classes. Manually created classes then feed into ALEKS.

Q: I removed a student from my class. Why do I still see them rostered on ALEKS?

A: Although a student may be removed from your course roster, they're removed from your class, but they are not removed from ALEKS. The student account shows as inactive on the school roster, and the account will appear in search results.

Q: Do I need to delete my ALEKS classes at the end of the year?

A: When a new class is created on ALEKS, teachers are prompted to choose a class start and end date. Once the end date passes, the class is automatically archived, so there is no need to delete it. Archived classes are still searchable on ALEKS.

Q: I have a student who needs intervention support. Can I assign that to them in ALEKS?

A: Embedded ALEKS does not offer the ability to assign different course materials to students. If a student needs access to different content for remediation or enrichment, they must be enrolled in a separate ConnectED course with the appropriate content.

Q: I have a student who needs access to content that is not preloaded into my ALEKS add-on. How can I get them access to a different curriculum?

A: While the Open Learning Platform version of ALEKS allows you to assign different courses to students via sub-classes, ConnectED embedded ALEKS does not. All students are restricted to the ALEKS curriculum associated with the specific ConnectED course.

Q: Can I share classes with co-teachers in ALEKS?

A: Classes associated with ConnectED embedded ALEKS courses cannot be shared with other instructors. Only one primary teacher is supported.

Q: Can I move students between classes in ALEKS?

A: Students in ConnectED embedded ALEKS classes cannot be moved to other classes. Students can be enrolled in a new class, but they must start over again and retake the knowledge check.

Q: Can I edit the content that is presented to my students in ALEKS?

A: You can add resources by uploading them manually. for steps on this process, see the Create Classic ALEKS Resources to Use in the Program article.

Q: Are there district administrator reports for ALEKS?

A: You can request admin reports for ALEKS by contacting ALEKS support.
