Throughout this article we will refer to auto-roster and manual rostering. What do those terms mean?

Auto-Roster (Automated Rostering):

Auto-roster refers to the process of automatically creating and updating user accounts, classes, and enrollments through a secure data integration. This is typically done via:

  • Clever, ClassLink, or SFTP data files
  • Regular syncing from the district’s SIS (Student Information System)

Key features:

  • No manual input required by educators or admins
  • Updates (e.g., student transfers, new enrollments) are reflected automatically
  • Helps ensure accuracy and consistency across systems
  • Manual Roster (Manual Setup):

Manual rostering refers to the process of manually creating and managing user accounts and class rosters within the McGraw Hill platform.

Key features:

  • Users (usually teachers or admins) create classes and add students by hand
  • Changes must be made manually by the user in the system
  • Does not require SIS integration or third-party tools

My district auto-rosters in McGraw Hill’s Open Learning platform today, how will we roster Actively Learn classes?

All user management, class rostering, and content assignments are handled for teachers. Teachers should reach out to their District Organization Administrator (or whomever handles the rostering activities) for rostering assistance.

Once the change has been made, the Actively Learn content can be mapped in Access Manager like it can with other McGraw Hill products. Organization Administrators can refer to Assign Content on Access Manager for more information, or an administrator can contact Integration Support at 855-315-6417 or integrationsupport@mheducation.com.

My district manually rosters in Open Learning today, how will we now roster Actively Learn classes?

For manually rostered schools, teachers can create and roster their classes, or rostering can be handled by their Organization Administrator using an import spreadsheet. For detailed instructions refer to the teacher and admin user guides below.

When  migrating from Actively Learn to McGraw Hill’s Open Learning, what existing data and customization will be transitioned?

No historical data is being deleted. District and school data will be aligned in the process that will happen on the back end once a district changes source from legacy to MH.

There is no real ‘transfer’ action that needs to take place for most users. After the last courses have ended on the Actively Learn rostering systems, the next set of rostering (user, course) data will happen through McGraw Hill systems. If you see any data not matching up, contact us at rostering@mheducation.com for assistance.

Custom content at the teacher, school, or district will still be available to the teachers coming in through McGraw Hill and Open Learning.

Can districts copy their classes over to the new experience via Open Learning?

No, existing classes will not transfer into Open Learning. New classes will need to be created by teachers and students within the Open Learning platform.

However, rest assured—no data is being deleted. Historical class data will remain accessible through user accounts in Actively Learn.

What will happen to the ActivelyLearn.com websites?

The Actively Learn website will transition to mheducation.com. When you visit activelylearn.com, you'll be automatically redirected to their new pages on the McGraw Hill website. All product resources and support materials will remain accessible and easy to find at their new home on mheducation.com.

Will we still be offering a Freemium option for Actively Learn?

Freemium will still be available as an option. There are no changes at this time for Actively Learn Freemium.

Will Freemium accounts also have their data and customization transitioned?

Freemium accounts are not being transferred to Open Learning and will therefore not have data transferred.

Will users still be able to purchase eBooks through the Actively Learn platform?

Yes, there is development work in process to support customers purchasing eBooks within the Actively Learn platform. This is expected to be available for back-to-school 2025.
