Platform combines dynamic digital teaching tools with leading instructional curriculum to personalize instruction

NEW YORK, Nov. 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- McGraw-Hill and education technology partner Time To Know® today announced the launch of Digital Teaching Platform 7.0 (DTP7), a data-driven, differentiated teaching and learning system for math and reading that delivers a deeply personalized educational experience with the potential to dramatically improve educational outcomes. The launch of the new platform – which now integrates McGraw-Hill's Common Core-aligned content and services for math and English Language Arts (ELA) in Grades 4-7 – represents the most significant collaboration to come from the two companies since they announced their distribution partnership last year.

The Time To Know platform – which has been shown to increase students' academic achievement and standardized test scores in pilots in Grand Prairie, Texas, and New York City – transforms the classroom by empowering teachers with the digital content and tools that they need to effectively drive student performance. The new platform uses technology to engage students through animations, hands-on exploration of key concepts through widgets and applets, and personalized practice and periodic assessment that leads to mastery. The McGraw-Hill content featured on the platform allows teachers to cycle between whole-class discussions and exploration, individual student experimentation, and highly personalized guided practice for each student.

"For decades, we've heard that industry-shifting education technology is on its way. With Time To Know, it's here, and it's making the one-to-one classroom a reality," said Peter Cohen, president of McGraw-Hill School Education. "We see teachers as core to the delivery of education outcomes, and Time To Know keeps the teacher at the center of instructional decisions, enabling them to personalize the classroom by using real-time analytics and customized instruction. In schools that use Time to Know, we've seen impressive increases in test scores, engagement and even attendance, which means that students are learning effectively and, more importantly, they want to learn."

At the core of the online program is a virtual dashboard that gives teachers a real-time view of each student's progress on assignments, enabling teachers to customize instruction and identify students who need extra, on-the-spot support as they progress through their math and ELA courses. This unique type of instruction fosters engagement and active student involvement, which leads to deeper conceptual understanding of the material, and supports the Common Core State Standards' goal of developing critical, high-order thinking in students.

"We truly believe that this solution represents the future of K-12 education," said Dr. Yosi Ben-Dov, vice chairman, Time To Know. "By combining McGraw-Hill's world-class curriculum development and instructional design with our experience in educational technology, we have exceeded even our own expectations, and truly produced a learning environment unlike anything else on the market."

At the time of its launch, the new platform features complete math courses for Grades 4-7 and English Language Arts curricula for Grades 4 and 5, designed entirely by McGraw-Hill to address the learning standards set forth by Common Core. Within two years, the solution is expected to contain full math, science and ELA curricula for Grades 3-8. McGraw-Hill is currently conducting pilots of the new materials, and will be making real-time adjustments to the system in response to participants' feedback.
