CTB/McGraw-Hill Helps Teachers Assess Students' Language Proficiency in English and Spanish with New LAS Links Forms C & Español B

Summative assessment tools that correspond with the Common Core State Standards allow teachers to address the academic language needs of all students

MONTEREY, Calif., Sept. 23, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- CTB/McGraw-Hill, one of the nation's leading educational assessment partners, today announced the launch of LAS Links Forms C & Español B, a new pair of research-based, summative assessment forms designed to measure students' language proficiency in correspondence with the goals of the Common Core State Standards. LAS Links Forms C & Español B build directly upon the proven success of the LAS Links suite of solutions, which emphasizes language development in the areas of speaking, listening, reading, writing and comprehension for academic achievement and college and career readiness.

"Language proficiency in academic and social settings has always been absolutely vital to students' success in the classroom, and the Common Core has raised the bar even higher," said Ellen Haley, president of CTB/McGraw-Hill. "With these new additions to the LAS Links suite, teachers can be confident that their students are fully prepared to engage in the academic discourse that will be expected of them in today's classrooms."

LAS Links Forms C & Español B measure comprehensive skills in academic and social language across the domains of speaking, listening, reading, and writing for the content areas of mathematics, science, language arts, social studies and technical subjects. The new assessments provide educators with a valid and reliable test instrument to determine how well students are progressing toward the acquisition of the English and Spanish language skills needed to be successful in academic settings.

CTB/McGraw-Hill will soon be launching LAS Links Form D, a parallel form to its research-based Form C for measuring English/Spanish language proficiency and a new version of LAS Links Online. LAS Links Online will feature an entirely new user interface that is designed to be more intuitive and flexible for both students and teachers. The new user interface also allows administrators to more easily manage their licenses, including assigning units to schools and specific teachers, and immediate access to new reports that provide language measures for academic and social language and a new longitudinal reporting feature.

All new LAS Links forms remain calibrated to the same scale as the existing forms, allowing educators to continue to monitor the growth of their students with consistent proficiency scores.
