About the Author

Thomas Bateman

Thomas Bateman earned his B.A. from Miami University, and his Ph.D. in business administration from Indiana University. He is Bank of America professor and management area coordinator in the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia, teaching leadership and organizational behavior. Dr. Bateman taught at Kenan-Flagler Business School of the University of North Carolina and for two years in Europe at the Institute of Management Development, a world leader in design and delivery of executive education. He is an active management researcher, writer, and consultant, and serves on the editorial boards of several prestigious journals. His articles appear in professional journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Dr. Bateman's research interests center on proactive behavior by employees at all levels, with a recent turn toward scientists and public leadership.

Robert Konopaske

Robert Konopaske received his B.A. from Rutgers University, his M.A. in international business studies from the University of South California, and his Ph.D. in business administration at the University of Houston. He has taught at several universities and currently is an associate professor at McCoy College of Business at Texas State University. Dr. Konopaske has received numerous teaching honors, most recently the 2016 Presidential Distinction Award, 2014 Gregg Master Teacher Award, and 2012–2013 Namesake for the PAWS Preview new student socialization program. He is co-author of several books, including Human Resource Management and Global Management and Organizational Behavior. Dr. Konopaske has been published in outlets such as the Journal of Applied Psychology and serves on the editorial board of the International Journal of Human Resource Management. Dr. Konopaske has worked with a wide range of companies and industries, such as Credit Suisse and KPMG.
