About the Author

Vernon J. Richardson

Vernon J. Richardson is a Distinguished Professor of Accounting and the G. William Glezen Chair in the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas and a visiting professor at Baruch College. He received his BS. Master’s of Accountancy, and MBA from Brigham Young University and a PhD in accounting from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has taught students at the University of Arkansas, University of Illinois, Brigham Young University, and University of Kansas and internationally at Chinese University of Hong Kong Shenzhen, Aarhus University, the China Europe International Business School (Shanghai), Xi'an Jiaotong Liverpool University, and the University of Technology Sydney.Dr. Richardson is a member of the American Accounting Association. He has served as president of the American Accounting Association Information Systems section. He previously served as an editor of The Accounting Review and is currently an editor at Accounting Horizons. He has published articles in The Accounting Review, Journal of Information Systems, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Contemporary Accounting Research, MIS Quarterly, International Journal of Accounting Information Systems, Journal of Management Information Systems, Journal of Operations Management, and Journal of Marketing. Dr. Richardson is also a co-author of McGraw-Hill’s Introduction to Data Analytics for Accounting, Data Analytics for Accounting and Introduction to Business Analytics textbooks.

Ronald N. Guymon

Ronald N. Guymon is a Senior Lecturer in the Gies College of Business at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He received his BS and Master of Accountancy from Brigham Young University and his PhD in accounting from the University of Iowa. In addition to his current role at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, he has shared his expertise with students at Georgia State University, Washington University in St. Louis, and the University of Iowa. He has also helped dozens of clients find insights with their own data while working outside of academia as a Chief Data Scientist at Numetric and as the Chief Data Officer at Gigg. Dr. Guymon has published in Journal of Management Accounting Research and Accounting Horizons. He has been helping to shape business analytics curriculums since 2012. Notably, he has created and cocreated several courses related to business analytics, including various massive open online courses (MOOCS) that include Introduction to Accounting Data Analytics and Visualization, Accounting Data Analytics with Python, Introduction to Business Analytics with R, Tools for Exploratory Data Analysis in Business, and Machine Learning Algorithms with R in Business Analytics. He has been a Gies Teaching and Learning Faculty Innovation Scholar and is a recipient of the Dean’sImpact Award. In addition to teaching business analytics, Dr. Guymon frequently uses analytic tools to develop analytic solutions in various aspects of his life from improving the efficiency of grading to maintaining the cars that his family uses.

Joseph Richardson

Joseph V. Richardson is a Business Analyst and Product Owner within the Tech@Tyson IT department of Tyson Foods Inc. He studied at the University of Arkansas, earning a Master’s Degree in Applied Business Analytics and a Bachelor of Science in Anthropology. Joseph has spent his early career at Tyson Foods as a QA Analyst, advising and assisting project management in more accurately and efficiently documenting and communicating software testing data and insights. He now works as a Product Owner over HR Benefits for Tyson employees
