Pearson Review of Progress & Learning (PRoPL) is a computer-based interim assessment intended to be administered three times throughout the school year to measure student growth.  PRoPL provides feedback to students, families, and teachers by outlining the skills in which each student demonstrates proficiency, as well as areas requiring additional support. The assessments are integrated and accessible directly from your McGraw Hill course, allowing for easy implementation and administration.

*All PRoPL test sessions must be scheduled within the designated administration windows provided — these windows cannot be extended. MAP Growth and STAR assessments are available year-round. To ensure meaningful growth between interim assessments, a minimum of eight weeks of instruction is facilitated between each administered assessment.

 

Administration Duration

All PRoPL assessments are untimed but designed to be completed within a class period, averaging approximately 35-40 minutes for most students. The actual time to complete an assessment depends on a number of factors, including assessment content area, student grade level, etc.

Current Assessment Suite

Grade Content Area Testing Type
K-2 Math, Literacy Linear: each student receives the same assessment questions in the same sequence for that grade and subject.
3-8 Math, Literacy Adaptive: the assessment adapts to the student's ability level. Students will not be able to go back to previously answered questions and must respond to each question before advancing in the assessment.

 

Question Types

The PRoPL assessments are composed of a variety of question types. These include multiple-choice, multi-select, and various technology-enhanced interaction types, including the following:  

  • Drag-and-drop  

  • Text entry  

  • Graphing (bar, point/line)  

  • Hot spot inline choice  

  • Matching  

All PRoPL items are worth one point. 

 

Assessment Design

The PRoPL blueprint is a proportionate representation of a common state summative blueprint. For grades 3-8, each assessment comprises two sections: an on-grade section and an extended section that will measure prerequisite skills or provide challenge content depending on the students’ performance with the on-grade content.  

Note: The extended section results are included in the total score and used to track growth but will not be used when creating a link to a state’s summative scores.  

For grades 3-8 PRoPL is computer adaptive.  

  • The test is question-level adaptive. This means that as a student moves through the test, each subsequent question is selected based on how the student responded to the previous question. Therefore, on the test students will not be able to go back to previously answered questions.  

Tests for grades K-2 are fixed forms. All students will see the same questions in the same sequence.
