Single Sign-On (SSO) and Auto-Rostering

This article applies to Auto-Rostering districts. Auto-Rostering means that account creation, class setup, and roster management are automated through a process handled by your district.

Direct Login means that teachers, students, and administrators log in at my.mheducation.com.

Single Sign-On applies to districts that use an SSO portal, district website, or Learning Management System (LMS) to access McGraw Hill digital programs.

When multiple terms of the same ALEKS class are auto-rostered at the same time, students will be enrolled in both classes. This can be confusing for students who don't know which class to log into and lead to issues after the term switches.

Example: Because they were rostered at the same time, a Semester 1 class and a Semester 2 class both show up for the student even if the start date for the Semester 2 class is set to a future date.

  • This causes two classes to show up for the student until the teacher archives one. This can be confusing for students, especially if the classes have the same name.
  • This can also cause issues later when students need to move to their Semester 2 class. Instead of transferring progress from the Semester 1 class to the Semester 2 class, the student will lose current progress and have to retake the Initial Knowledge Check.

To avoid this, when sending files at the beginning of the new year, send only the first term (ex: Semester 1) classes. You can then send consecutive term (ex: Semester 2) classes a day or two before the start date of the term. This will prevent any issues with students having dual enrollments and having to retake the Initial Knowledge Check.

Note: If you cannot avoid sending both terms at the same time due to the way your data is pulled, be sure to name the multiple-term classes to indicate the different terms (Ex: Algebra 1 S1, Algebra 1 S2) to avoid confusion for students and teachers. The teachers can then archive the Semester 2 classes until the start of Semester 2.
