Here are a few simple things you can do to encourage your child to work on their reading skills outside of school:
Each week, review at least one of your child's assigned lessons.
Think of a few questions that you can use at the dinner table to encourage your child to summarize what they read and share any opinions they have formed about the content.
Use the My Lessons page on your Home Edition to help your child review all assigned work.
Encourage them to identify any incomplete and create a plan for finishing assignments in class. Look for Respond step scores of 75% or higher in each lesson.
Encourage your child to explore additional lessons in Achieve3000 Literacy outside of school.
They can use the Search feature to find articles aligned to their interests, such a sports, space, animals, or careers. They can even explore a multi-chapter fiction story written and their precise reading level! All their work will contribute to their improved reading abilities.
Provide encouragement if you see Respond scores below 75%.
Help your child understand the value of taking their time when reading the questions and encourage them to take advantage of tools such as the strikeout tool or referring back to the lesson before selecting a response.
Use the Career Center to help your child connect reading performance to careers of interest.
Helping your child see how strong reading skills connect to careers that interest them can be a powerful motivator.
Encourage reading at home!
The more your child reads, the stronger their skills become. Whether it's a picture book, chapter book, comic book, or magazine, establish a regular family reading time where everyone reads together.
Visit your local public library to find other books that interest your child!
Use the Find a Book feature from MetaMetrics to find titles that match your child's age and reading level. You can find your child's Lexile measure in Reports.
