Achieve3000 Literacy uses multiple-choice activities to regularly assess student Lexile gains. At the end of each month, the system reviews student performance on valid activities completed during Supervised Student Work Time to identify those students who are ready for more complex text. To preserve the integrity of that calculation, activities completed outside of this time and on certain U.S. holidays, sometimes referred to as blackout dates, are not factored into those end-of-month calculations. In these cases, students may receive assistance from outside resources, such as older siblings or family members, which can artificially inflate the Lexile calculations.
Any activities completed outside of school hours, or on listed U.S. holidays, will count towards a student’s 40-activity semester goal. They will appear on all reports and can be reviewed by teachers. Students also earn points and achievements for all completed activities, regardless of when or where they were completed.
It is important to note that ALL activities completed by students, whether in school or at home, will help strengthen critical literacy skills and can indirectly increase Lexile performance. Working independently can increase confidence with reading, build overall fluency, and allow students the opportunity to choose lessons of interest. Students should be encouraged to select and complete lessons outside of school hours.
If you wish to remove the exception dates for your school or district, please have your administrator contact the customer support team.
