Description

The report outlines three studies of Early Interventions in Reading (EIR) in first grade classrooms in Florida and Texas. The Florida study found that the intervention can help reduce the number of students that struggle with beginning reading skills. The first Texas study focused on a three-tiered intervention, and results suggested that students who used EIR with a quality core reading program showed substantial growth compared with readers who only received Tier I instruction. The second study in Texas showed the value of IER in building English-language skills of at-risk second-language learners.
