Connect - I receiving a time-out error message when attempting to upload my video for my speech assignment?

Resolve timeout errors that occur when uploading videos for speech assignments in Connect.

It is possible that you might receive a time-out message if you wait beyond 60 minutes for a speech to upload.

Do not wait longer than 15 minutes for a video to complete the upload portion of the process; you’ll know uploading is complete when the screen says “now encoding.”

Also, do not wait longer than 30 minutes for the video to complete the upload, encode, and load on Connect processes. There are three processes that must complete and should not take more than ½ hour (upload, encode, load).

When you upload a video to Connect, the system has to complete three processes: (1) actual video upload from your computer to Connect; (2) system encoding of the video; and (3) load/display of the video on the screen.  You should always wait until all three processes are complete, and you should actually view the video on the screen before clicking to their next step.  If you exit out of Connect before the video is displayed on the screen, the video will not be saved on Connect. This entire process should take no more than 30 minutes and in most cases should take well under 10-15 minutes.

If 10-15 minutes have gone by and the video is still uploading (has not yet started encoding), please check:

(1)    What is your internet connection speed?  If you are trying to use dial-up access, can you find another, speedier connection (perhaps in the library)?  If you cannot find a speedier connection, please contact us so that we can arrange another means for getting the video to Connect.
(2)    Did you compress the video? If you have compressed the video and are using a fast internet connection, pleasecontact usso that we can arrange another means for getting the video to Connect.
