- When recording the the video of your speech, you have two options available:
A.) Record the speech online with a web camera (in Connect) and then upload.
B.) Record the speech offline with a digital video camera, transfer the video file to your computer, and then upload.
B.) Record the speech offline with a digital video camera, transfer the video file to your computer, and then upload.
If you choose option A, Connect will choose an acceptable file format when the video is being recorded (using your webcam).
- After recording a speech (using a webcam), be sure to click the Save button. Otherwise, the video will not be saved and it will need to re-recorded.
If you choose option B, the video will be recorded/saved in a format that the camera is set to record in, but may be a different format than Connect accepts. Videos can be uploaded in the following acceptable formats:
- .flv
- .avi
- .mov
- .mpg / .mpeg
- .mp4 / .m4v
- wmv / .wmv9
- .dv (Digital Video)
- .mov/.qt .mpg/.mpeg (MPEG‐1, MPEG‐2, MPEG‐4, H.264)
- .mp4 (MPEG‐4, H.264)
- .m4v (iTunes H.264)
- .3gp/.3g2 (Mobile Phone)
- .wmv/.asf (Windows Media Video)
Note: These are the most common video formats.
If you choose option B (above) and you receive a message regarding that the format of your file is not accepted, we suggest the trying the following steps:
- Check the documentation and software that came with the camera for instructions on converting the video to a valid format.
- There are software and apps that will convert and compress your file format to one of the acceptable formats listed above. We have found that the .FLV (flash) format works best. Access our Student Guide To Recording and Uploading Videos to Connect.
