Connect Media Services - An Introduction

 

Connect Media Services is an area within Connect where instructors may create and/or upload media files, providing a seamless experience for instructors and students alike.

It is important to note that Media Services are only available in the Connect "New Experience".


To access Media Services:

• Sign in to Connect in the usual way
• Access the section you wish to work from
• Locate the "Course materials" panel on the right side of your section home page
• Click "Launch lectures"
• You now have access to your media and the features available within the service

All Media:

The All Media page provides features that will help to enhance your media.

+ Add New Media allows you to record new media or to upload existing media that is saved to your device.
NOTE: On the first recording or upload, you will be prompted to install the GASPAR browser Extension for the current browser being used. If you are not prompted, you may go to the Google Play Store (Windows users) or the App Store (Apple users)

• You may record:
  • Audio
  • Screen
  • Webcam
  • Screen and Webcam
• You may upload:
  • An audio file
  • A video file

To the far right of each media file is a burger (three vertical dots). The burger allows you to:

• Manage/Edit the recording
• Copy the Embed code URL
• Download a copy of the recording

To access additional features, click a recording name. This will take you to the General Info page.
This page allows you to:

• Preview the recording
• Copy the Media Link:
  • Copy URL
• Edit the Thumbnail
  • The Thumbnail is a still image presented when the video loads for viewers. You may:
    • Select a different image from the actual video
    • Navigate to and upload an image of your choice
      • Acceptable files: png, jpg
• Replace the video
• Additional Information, review the recording Information:
  • Status of the upload
  • Created date
  • Duration
  • What date the video was Last Updated
  • Size of the video

There are additional tabs below the recording name at the top of the page:

• General Info
  • The landing page when you click a recording from the Media List
• Captions
  • You may Upload new Caption that have been manually created
  • Auto-Generate Caption
    • It is always recommended that you review and edit auto-generated captions once they have loaded into your media
• Audio Description
  • Upload a New Audio Description to help ensure your media is ADA-compliant
    • Provides the viewer with a description of what is being visually displayed within a video
    • Acceptable files: .srt, .vtt or .txt
• Chapter
  • Upload New Chapter 
    • Chapters will create Bookmarks along the recording timeline to signify points of interest within the recording
    • Acceptable files: .srt, .vtt or .txt
