protect their tribal lands and

communities from

countries sign the Montreal

Protocol, an agreement to phase

out the use of chemical compounds

that destroy atmospheric ozone.

Theodore Roosevelt urges

the U.S. Congress to set aside over

70 million hectares of land to

Rachel Carson publishes a
