Why don't we provide IP addresses?
IP addresses are often tied to physical locations and hardware, which can be more susceptible to temporary loss of connection. In contract, subdomains are relatively static, and maintain availability and performance of the service, even when some of the hardware supporting it is inaccessible.
If your filters require static IP addresses, you may use public DNS services to look up valid IP addresses for each of our subdomains, and should re-validate periodically to maintain access for your users. Historically, most of our subdomains keep the same IP address for at least several months at a time. However, the subdomain catalog.mcgraw-hill.com (and by extension, s3.amazonaws.com) is used to deliver high-performance, high-availability media, and our provider, Amazon Web Services, changes IP addresses throughout the day to accommodate geographic and volumetric changes among active users.
