    Elizabeth Mays

Elizabeth Mays is a full-time tenured biology professor at Illinois Central College, whose love for teaching began as an undergraduate teaching assistant at Illinois Wesleyan University, where she learned the importance of connecting to students on a personal level. While her current teaching load at Illinois Central College includes non-majors biology along with anatomy and physiology, she has also instructed developmental biology, cell biology, marine biology, and ecology. At ICC, she has focused on incorporating simple activities and practices into her teaching that encourage student ownership of learning, mindfulness, and content relevancy to promote student success. Elizabeth has recently led the redesign of ICC's non-majors biology course to focus on relevancy, including authoring an institution-specific lab manual. She has also authored and edited several projects for McGraw Hill associated with their LearnSmart® and SmartBook® products.
