Connect - Why do I keep receiving a message that I am out of attempts for Chemistry, Physics, or Engineering questions?

Learn why Connect shows an out-of-attempts message for Chemistry, Physics, and Engineering questions.

If you are attempting a question(s) within your assignment and you see an out of attempts message, please see below for an explanation why this is displaying:

There are two different types of questions:

1.) Static Questions

  • Some questions only have one version of the question that is assigned to all students.  These are called static questions.  For these questions, if you attempt to view the solution (click the guided solution button or click the show me buttons), then you will be asked to give up to see the solution.  If you give up, then you will not be able to attempt the question again (for all further attempts at the assignment); instead you will see the out of attempts error message.

Note:  Also, if you check your work the number of allowed times and run out of attempts at the question, then you will be shown the solution.  By viewing the solution, this means that you will be out of attempts at this question for all further attempts at the assignment.

2.) Algorithmic Questions

  • Some questions have multiple versions of the question that are randomly assigned to each student.  These are called algorithmic questions.  For these questions, if you attempt to view the solution (click the guided solution button, click the show me buttons, or check your work the number of allowed times and run out of attempts at the question), then you will be shown the solution.  You will see a try another button appear that will allow you to try another algorithmic version of the question for credit.

Note:  The number of times that a student can use the try another button is restricted to 10 per assignment attempt (by default).
