The default number of times that a student can check their answer for Chemistry, Physics, Math, Astronomy, and Engineering questions is 3.  If you'd like to change this number, follow the steps below:

  • Add or edit an assignment
  • Navigate to the set policies tab
  • Scroll down to review assignment settings
  • Change the Question Attempts from 3 to a number of your choice
  • Click the apply to this assignment only or the save as default settings button
  • Click the review & assign button
  • Click the assign button

Now, when students attempt each question, they will have the number of attempts that you have chosen.  After students run out of the attempts for each question, they will have either of the two options depending on if the question is algorithmic or not:

  • For static questions (only 1 version of the question):  The students will not be able to attempt the question again (within that assignment attempt).  If they have another attempt at the assignment, then they can submit and attempt the question again in the next assignment attempt.  If you do not want the students to be able to attempt the assignment again, then please set their assignment attempts to 1.
  • For algorithmic questions (same type of question, but each student receives a different version of that question with different numeric values):  The students will be able to click the 'try another' button and try another version of that question (same type of question, but different values).

Notes:

For algorithmic questions, if you do not want the students to be able to try another version of that question when they run out of attempts, then you must deselect the Try Another option located under review assignment settings, by setting it to zero.

If you do not want your students to have the show me or guided solution buttons, then you may disable these by deselecting the Show solutions and answers and show guided solutions and answers boxes located in resources within the set policies tab.
