Berwick Alternative K–8 School in Columbus, Ohio, serves over 700 elementary and secondary students, over 60% of whom qualify for the free or reduced lunch program. Despite some economic challenges, Berwick Alternative School educators maintain high expectations for all students, and they are committed to giving every child the tools he or she needs to succeed. Based on its 2014–2015 Ohio School Report Card, Ohio’s State Board of Education recognized Berwick Alternative K–8 as one of its first annual Momentum Award winners. The Momentum Award recognizes schools for exceeding expectations in student growth for the year.

The Middle School of the Kennebunks (MSK) is an International Baccalaureate (IB) Program middle school, serving the communities of Kennebunk and Kennebunkport, Maine. MSK is also part of The Maine Learning Technology Initiative, providing laptops to all of the school’s seventh and eighth graders. In 2014, MSK was named a Distinguished School for Innovation, Leadership, and Educational Excellence by the Apple Corporation—one of only six schools in Maine to receive the distinction.

As a rural, southwest Louisiana school in Jefferson Davis Parish School System,Hathaway High School serves primary, middle and high school students. Hathaway’s school performance scores are consistently the best in the district, and the school earned an A rating on its 2013-2014 state report card. The school’s scores on the ACT and the ACT’s EXPLORE and PLAN tests have all shown growth and are higher than the national average.
