2017 English Learner (EL) Education Report


We surveyed 1,300+ administrators and teachers about their perceptions, instructional approaches, and support provided for English Learners in their schools.


Key Findings

  • 95% of educators report Spanish as the most common language spoken by EL students in their classrooms.
  • Only 55% of educators agree that they receive sufficient ongoing professional development for supporting EL students.
  • 90% of educators believe that EL instruction at their school or district has helped their students graduate from high school.
  • 99% of respondents ranked family support and engagement as extremely important to EL students’ success.
