About the Author

Philip Stein

Philip Stein has taught anthropology at Los Angeles Pierce College since 1964. He did double-duty as an instructor of Anthropology at California State University, Northridge from 1966-1975. Professor Stein has received many teaching awards and wrote the chapter on teaching physical anthropology for a book published by the American Anthropological Association.

Bruce Rowe

Bruce Rowe has taught anthropology at Los Angeles Pierce College since 1969. Professor Rowe has also received numerous awards for teaching. He teaches sociology and linguistics as well as physical and cultural anthropology.

Brian Pierson

Brian Pierson has been a professor at Pierce College since 2013. He earned his BA in Anthropology from UCLA in 2004, his MA in Physical Anthropology from Tulane University in 2009, and his PhD from Tulane University in 2011. In addition to teaching full time, Dr. Pierson has consulted with the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner and with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office of Louisiana on active forensic cases. He has participated as a lecturer for the Los Angeles Special Operations Response Team for their Skeletal Recovery Workshop since 2015 and as a lecturer for the Los Angeles Department of Coroner's West Coast Training Conference in 2012. He has created forensic and paleoanthropological facial reproductions for museums, displays, and publications in the United States and Europe. He has been an invited lecturer at several academic institutions and professional conferences. He is an active member of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and the American Association of Physical Anthropologists.
