How to Get Involved on Campus

College is a very unique time in that you have many opportunities to get involved in a plethora of different organizations that you won’t have easy access to at any other time. Just going to class is fine, but doing this alone robs you of the full college experience. Whether it’s clubs, charity organizations, Greek life, helping professors with their research or more, there’s a multitude of ways to get involved on campus.

University Clubs

Joining a club is one of the easiest ways to get involved on campus. Many colleges have a large array of clubs tailored to the different interests of the student body. These interests range from sports to academics to hobbies. There are also many clubs devoted to issues that are important to students. For example, since I am an environmentalist, I’m a part of the Bloomsburg H.O.P.E. club (Help Our Planet Earth) which holds activities and fundraisers devoted towards environmental awareness and sustainable living. Universities usually have a website or activities fair to promote all the clubs they offer. Browse through it and sign up for whatever catches your interest, or, better yet, create your own on campus! Clubs are great opportunities to meet new people with similar interests, work at something that’s important to you and have fun!

Greek Life

Almost every university has a multitude of fraternities and sororities to join in to make new friends, do community service and get connections from alumni. This is a great way to meet new people from many different majors and make long lasting friendships. It is also a great way to get involved on campus because Greek organizations do community service to give back to the university and the community around it. If you are looking for a way to make new friends and give back to the community, all while making great connections to alumni that will help you in your future career, Greek life may be for you!

Student Government

Do you want to have a say in how student life is run on campus? Consider joining your college’s student government! Students here can voice their concerns about on-campus issues to the administrative heads of the college, decide on the various activities hosted on-campus for students and more. Joining the student government is a great way to have an influence on what goes on on-campus.

These are only a few of the opportunities that can arise on campus. Opportunities like helping a professor with research, studying abroad, going on trips with organizations and more, can pop up when you least expect it. When they do, take advantage of them because they could give you invaluable experience that you may never get the chance to do again outside of college. Make the most of your college experience: get involved!
