You asked for it. We listened. You got it! As we prepared the 12th edition of Understanding Business, we asked you how we could make the text and package even better for you and your students to continue to live up to the Gold Standard mark. Thank you for letting us know what worked for you, so we can maintain it; and for letting us know what didn't work as well, so we could revise it. We retained the number and order of the chapters, so no need to revise your syllabus! At your request, we condensed discussions whenever possible. • Integrate coverage of social media. In addition to sections about social media in many chapters, we've added a new box called Connecting Through Social Media to highlight the power of this communication tool in business. • We replaced all the profiles and boxes with current topics. We replaced many of the in-text examples with fresh stories. • A quick skim of the endnotes will reveal that most of the sources are from 2017. • We added discussions of current topics such as Brexit, compassionate capitalism, gig economy, withdrawal from TPP, social media advertising, on-call scheduling, 3D printing, additive manufacturing, ransomware, and much, much more. • Increase career emphasis. Let's face it: Our students need to get a job when they graduate. At the end of each chapter we've added a new section called Career Exploration that offers a few careers students may want to consider learning more about. • Offer more tools for an interactive class. Many instructors see great success with SmartBook, giving them more time to engage with students vs. lecturing. We created PowerPoints that include more discussion and polling questions that link to specific learning objectives. The instructor's manual provides additional Icebreaker exercises, mini-cases, and lecture outlines. The From the News to the Classroom site is updated a couple of times a week to help you keep things fresh in your course. In Connect, we've added 10 new video clips and mini-simulations. • Keep the text current. Here's what you asked for:
