Thrive Makes the Difference in New York City Schools

The Impact of Thrive


Three New York City Schools, from the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan, using Thrive math and Thrive ELA were analyzed during the 2011-2012 school year. Data was collected from student and teacher focus groups, school principal interviews, and New York state test scores.

  • Forty-two percent of 4th graders reached 3rd and 4th levels in New York state tests after using the Thrive ELA program, compared to only 11 percent reaching the same levels the prior year without using the Thrive ELA program.

  • Sixty-three percent of 5th graders reached 3rd and 4th levels in New York state tests after using the Thrive math programs, compared with 36 percent reaching the same levels the prior year without using the Thrive math program.

Whitt Fine Arts Academy, Texas


Students at Whitt Fine Arts Academy, an elementary school in Texas (Grand Prairie Independent District), experience 21st century learning using Thrive, iPod® devices, interactive whiteboards, and other instructional technologies. In 2013, their third year of using Thrive, Whitt compared test scores from the previous two years.

  • Eighty-nine percent of students passed the math achievement mark on the 2012 State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) versus a passing rate of 69 percent for the control group district.

  • Eighty percent of the 4th grade students agree that Thrive helps them better understand math and ELA.

Archdiocese of New York schools

In 2012, 162 students in grades 4 and 5 from four Archdiocese of New York schools began using the Thrive math program.

  • A range of 87.5 percent to 96.4 percent of 4th grade students enjoyed learning with Thrive.

Davis School, Texas

In 2013, 241 5th grade students participated in the Thrive math program at the Davis School in Texas.

Glen Rose Independent School District


In 2014, STAAR assessment passing rates at the Glen Rose Intermediate School rose for Hispanic students (29 percent of school population) in math and ELA, from 71 percent to 95 percent, and 76 percent to 98 percent, respectively, after using Thrive.

For economically disadvantaged students (47.3 percent of student body on reduced-price lunch program), math achievement rates jumped from 66 percent to an impressive 90 percent, while reading pass rates increased from 73 percent to an astounding 92 percent.
