McGraw-Hill today announced the appointment of Heath Morrison to Senior Vice President of Government Affairs

NEW YORK, Feb. 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- McGraw-Hill today announced that Dr. Heath Morrison will be joining the company as senior vice president of government affairs. In this role, he will be responsible for representing the company's government-related opportunities before federal and state legislators and regulators and representatives of local school districts. Morrison's team will also serve as advocates for McGraw-Hill on policy issues affecting the company and its industry.

Morrison began his career as a social studies teacher in Virginia and Maryland and quickly moved into administration, becoming principal of both a middle and high school as well as a Community Superintendent in Montgomery County, MD. In 2009, he was selected to serve as Superintendent of Washoe County School District in Reno, Nevada, and has most recently served as Superintendent of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Under his leadership, both school districts saw rapid gains in state test scores, graduation rates, and participation and performance in Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses. In 2011, Morrison was named Nevada Superintendent of the Year, and in 2012, he became AASA's National Superintendent of the Year. He holds a Ph.D. in Educational Policy and Planning and a Masters of Educational Administration from the University of Maryland. He graduated with a Bachelor's degree in government from the College of William and Mary.

"Having Heath in this role reflects how vital it is for McGraw-Hill to understand and support policies which improve student achievement and the connections between K-12 schooling, higher education and careers," said Peter Cohen, group president of U.S. education for McGraw-Hill. "Heath is a leader who has personally carried this mission for multiple districts and will deepen our ability to drive further improvements in education and be even better partners with school districts and colleges across the country."

"I'm thrilled to join McGraw-Hill at such an important time for both the company and the industry," added Morrison. "McGraw-Hill's market-leading adaptive products are transforming the science of learning with personalized, data-driven solutions that drive student achievement. We want to be a strong voice in government affairs to improve the lives of students of all ages."
